Everything Has a Place
We are starting week 12! During the past week, we have continued work on the exhibit and receive feedback on some of our assignments completed to this point. This week consisted of:
1. Finishing the scale model
2. Receiving feedback on our preliminary label outline, and our design brief
3. Beginning the artifact data sheets for the objects to be displayed in the exhibit
4. Old Main Time Capsule
Completing the scale model was each committee’s main goal this week. The top priority was the completion of the case sketch-ups done by the design team. Each case has a sample of the artifacts that will be displayed in them with an approximate location for each inside the case. Also added to the model were the interactive elements of the exhibit. These include a selfie station with a historic photo from the Illinois State Museum, the nesting bowl puzzle, guest book, video, and a station with a book and gloves.

Next, we received feedback on our design brief from Booth Library that had us considering how we will use the color pallet we have chosen as well as feedback on our preliminary label outline. This feedback will help us to move forward with our plans making any necessary adjustments to them before we hit the point of no return. It will also help us to make each document the best we can now which will help to eliminate some of that with the next set of drafts.
Now that the scale model is completed, our next assignment related to the exhibit are the artifact data sheets. These forms will allow us to gain a better understanding of the specs of each artifact including dimensions, weight, where it came from, etc. Knowing these details will help us to know what kind of stands will be needed and how to best organize them in the cases. It will also allow us to have a neat and organized record of all the artifacts and documents we will be receiving on loan from our partner institutions.

Lastly, we have decided to include the contents of the time capsule that was once placed in the cornerstone of Old Main here on campus. We will use this to show who can do public history as well as tie it to our own time capsule that we will have the public be a part of through the exhibit.
Stay tuned for more information on the planning of the exhibit from the HA class of 2016-2017!
