Fund, Support, Preserve
Budgets are difficult. Inevitably there are too many costs and not enough funds. Tough decisions need to be made, and things get cut. Museums and historic sites, unfortunately, are very familiar with small budgets, and manage to do quite a lot with only a little.
Recently, President Donald Trump released his budget for 2018. Among the list of those receiving cuts are the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). The NEH and NEA are two of the largest funders and supporters for museums, historic sites, exhibitions, documentaries, galleries, artists, authors, …
The list goes on.
Museums, historic sites, galleries-they all play an important role in your daily life, one that you might not be aware of.
So what can you do to help? Be vocal about the NEH, the NEA, and so many other programs. Don't be shy! Let people and politicians know that you value these programs and that they are worth keeping. If you can, donate your time or money to these organizations. If you can't, that's fine too. Even just visiting a museum helps- just remember to sign their guestbook, as the number of signatures they get shows attendance, which is often how they have to justify their budget.
