All Work and Some Play
You may be thinking the HA program has completely taken over our lives for the past nine months. This is somewhat true but we still find time to have some fun. This past week Tarble Arts Center hosted a trivia night where a few of my fellow HA's participated under the name, "Contributing Buildings in a Historic District." They took home first prize!
Not only do we sometimes participate in the EIU community, we include a little bit of fun into our crazy, daily lives in order to stay sane. We often crack jokes during class, dinner and drinks, volunteer at local events/historic sites (because this is what most museum people do for fun), and occasionally have slight breakdowns we can later laugh about.
Last weekend, Claire and I held an Easter Event for one of our projects that turned out to be pretty amazing with about 800 people to show up and children running around playing period games, rolling dyed eggs with wooden spoons, and scribbling all over Easter bunny coloring sheets. A few HA's even decided to participate in the egg roll themselves which made for some pretty great photographs and plenty of laughs.
Although we like to have a good time, there is still plenty of work to be done. This week is the last of the exhibit programming at Pensees Book Store. We will be hosting a paper conservation workshop at 5:30. The rest of the week for us will be devoted to the National Council for Public History Conference. Stay tuned to hear more about our last two weeks before the semester ends!
